Circular froms and a continuing interest in opticality has led Cox in her most recent work to combine glass lenses with netting and wire. Shown last fall in The Fin de Siecle Salon show at P.S. 122, this piece presently takes the form of a chandelier in which glass globes suspended in netting are attached to wires spread out in spider like forms. Once again the viewer is invited to move through this structure of floating spheres that capture color and light while reflecting back a distorted view of the surrounding enviornment. Sensitive to the pull of gravity, these shapes hover between fantasy and science evoking both strange optics and familiar everyday habits.
